Standard Coverage Sprinklers

Standard coverage fire sprinklers, available in both quick response and standard response types, are typically designed to protect areas up to 225 ft² (21 m2) per sprinkler in Light Hazard Occupancies, 130 ft2 (12.1 m2) per sprinkler in Ordinary Hazard Occupancies, and 100 ft2 (9.3 m2) in Extra Hazard and High Piled Storage Occupancies. Quick response sprinklers, used in light hazard areas, activate rapidly to enhance occupant life safety, while standard response sprinklers, suited for commercial and industrial occupancies, focus on property protection by controlling fire spread. Upon activation, these sprinklers discharge water in a characteristic “umbrella” pattern—an outward and downward spray that distributes water relatively evenly over the floor area below.
