System Valves

Fire protection system water control valves regulate water flow based on system type and hazard. Wet pipe valves hold water under pressure in the piping at all times and release it immediately upon sprinkler activation. Dry pipe valves separate pressurized air or nitrogen from water; when a sprinkler opens, the air escapes, allowing water to enter and discharge. Deluge valves are used with open nozzles; they remain closed until triggered by a detection system, then release water to all nozzles simultaneously. Preaction valves also keep water out of the piping until activated by a detection system; some require both detection and sprinkler operation to open (double-interlock), reducing accidental discharge. These valves are integral to system functionality and chosen based on response time, risk of freezing, and hazard type.
