A week-long period of morning has been declared in North Macedonia following the deaths of 59 people, with hundreds more injured, 20 who suffered critical burn injuries. According to current reports, “This company does not have a legal license for work,” according to the interior minister Panche Toshkovski. Unfortunately, the licence “as many other things in Macadonia in the past, is connected with bribery and corruption.” The fire was started by pyrotechnic devices that ignited the ceiling made of flammable materials. The BBC shared video from the the fire started. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar shared that a delegation of medical burn specialists will travel to North Macedonia to provide medical assistance.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those suffering with this catastrophic loss of life.
IFSA will continue its efforts to be of service to other countries with the enhancement of codes, standards and legislation for water-based fire protection systems.
