Electric Solenoid Valves
Electric solenoid valves in fire protection systems are electrically actuated devices typically installed on the trim piping of deluge and preaction valves to control their release. Their primary function is to open or vent the priming chamber when energized, allowing the main water control valve to trip and deliver water to open sprinklers or nozzles. In normal conditions, the solenoid remains closed, maintaining pressure in the priming line; upon activation, it rapidly releases this pressure to initiate system operation.
These solenoids are typically connected to a listed releasing control panel, which receives input from detection devices such as heat, smoke, or flame detectors. When the panel enters alarm, it energizes the solenoid to actuate the system.
Supervision is provided through the releasing panel in accordance with National Fire Protection Association NFPA 72, monitoring for integrity of wiring, power supply, and device status to ensure the solenoid remains in a ready, operable condition.
