Mark Fessenden, Managing Director of the IFSA, will present Remote Inspection and Testing of FireProtection Systems: Advancing Safety Through Innovation
As digital technologies reshape the fire protection landscape, remote inspection and testing are emerging as essential tools for enhancing system oversight, minimizing downtime, and supporting compliance. This session explores the evolving regulatory landscape, technological enablers, and practical considerations of implementing remote inspection and testing for fire protection systems. Attendees will gain insights into applicable codes and standards (such as NFPA 25, NFPA 915, and Factory Mutual Data Sheets), benefits and limitations of remote technologies, and strategies to ensure data integrity, system reliability, and stakeholder confidence.
Mark Fessenden is a globally recognized expert in active fire protection systems, including water-based systems (automatic sprinkler, water spray fixed systems, and watermist) and special hazard systems (clean agent, CO2, wet chemical, dry chemical, and foam). For the last three decades Mark has been involved with the manufacturing of active fire protection systems. His focus has been on the development of new technologies, codes & standards, sales and business development, technical services, training, and general management.
Mark was the 2024 recipient of the NFSA Russell P. Fleming Technical Service Award, the 2021 recipient of the SFPE Harold E. Nelson Service Award and the 2017 recipient of the NFPA Industrial Fire Protection Section Fire Prevention Award. Marks has several patents in technologies related to water-based fire protection systems. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from New England Institute of Technology and an MBA from Corban University.
Mark serves as the Managing Director of the International Fire Suppression Alliance, an organization dedicated to the global promotion of the use of effective water-based fire protection systems.

April 24, 2025 – 9:30 AM (EST)
James D. Lake, Vice President of Training, Viking Group, Inc. will present Sprinkler Protection for Car Parks
The Impact of Hazard Classification Changes & Evolving Challenges
Changes in technology impacting automobiles, construction techniques and storage systems have had a significant impact on the fire challenges in parking structures. NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems has responded to these changes by revising the hazard classifications for parking structures. Protection guidance is also found in FMDS 7-15 Garages and FMDS 3-26 Fire Protection for Non-storage Occupancies.
This presentation will explore the guidance in these documents and the impact of recent changes on sprinkler design. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss evolving fire protection challenges relating to alternative fuel vehicles, updating sprinkler systems, and the need for retroactive installation of sprinklers.
At the end of this webinar the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the history and current state of fire protection in parking structures.
- Describe the fire protection challenges presented by new automobile and parking technologies.
- Discuss potential sprinkler system solutions to these challenges

MARCH 19, 2025 – 1:00 pm (EST)
Jim McHugh presents “Innovative Solutions to Combat Corrosion & Freezing in Fire Sprinkler Systems”
Dive into the critical challenge of maintaining system longevity in the fire sprinkler industry amid issues like corrosion and freezing. This webinar will explore how innovative components—such as automatic air vents, heated auxiliary drains, and flood eliminators when auxiliary drains fail—are extending the lifespan of sprinkler systems worldwide. Tailored for installers, inspectors, design professionals, and authorities, this session will demonstrate how these technologies not only preserve system integrity but also improve overall safety and efficiency.
Learning Objectives:
– Understand the Impact: Identify how corrosion and freezing affect system longevity and overall fire safety performance.
– Explore Innovative Solutions: Analyze how advanced air vents, heated auxiliary drains, and flood eliminators mitigate these challenges.
– Evaluate Long-Term Benefits: Assess the cost-effectiveness and reliability improvements that these technologies bring to fire sprinkler systems on a global scale.
Jim McHugh, President of AGF Manufacturing, Inc., has been a leader in the fire sprinkler industry for decades after his father founded the company and introduced the AGF TESTANDRAIN® valve. Jim oversees the developing and manufacturing innovative fire protection products.
Jim presents on best practices, preventative maintenance, code requirements, and product specifications, offering in-person and online training for industry professionals. He has spoken at NFSA, AFSA and SFPE conferences and is a NICET approved training partner.
Jim is actively involved in industry associations, serving on NFSA’s Membership Committee and as Vice Chair of the SAM Council, as well as participating in AFSA, NFPA, SFPE, and ASPE.

March 27, 2025 – 9:30 AM (EST)
Lainey Liotta, Sr. Fire Protection Segment Manager, presents “Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly Fire Suppression Piping Systems”
Join us for a technical deep dive into how the selection of pipe and fitting materials can impact the affordability and sustainability of fire sprinkler systems. Explore certified CPVC fire sprinkler systems as well as specific technical advantages of these systems compared to metals, including corrosion resistance, hydraulic capabilities, ease of installation, and long-term performance. Additionally, representatives from the United States, South America, Australia, Europe, and India will join to share the practical applications of these systems and the impact they’ve had in their regions.
Learning Objectives:
– Recognize the types of applications in which BlazeMaster fire sprinkler systems are certified for use, as defined by globally recognized Standards like NFPA.
– Understand key technical aspects of BlazeMaster compared to traditional metal systems.
– Analyze the practical applications, challenges, and solutions provided by BlazeMaster fire sprinkler systems in diverse environments and regulatory contexts.
Lainey Liotta is the Global Fire Protection Segment Manager for Lubrizol, where she is primarily responsible for setting the business strategy for BlazeMaster® Fire Sprinkler Systems and freezemaster™ Antifreeze.
